Origins of the Douris name? Click here
The surname DOURIS originated in Greece and is specifically from the island of Ikaria in the Aegean. There are known branches, in the UK, Ireland and France, who are not aware of the origins of their surname and whose connection with Ikaria have long been lost. Similarly there are DOURIS families in America, Canada and Australia, some from the Greek connection and others from Ireland or UK.

The aim of this site is to include all, who wish to be included, on this our DOURIS FAMILY SITE.

January / February 2011 Update
Dear All .

.
Happy New Year to everyone even if it is a bit late. I have spent the last two months in the UK but am now back on Ikaria and looking for more information and trees for our family website.

Nothing new has been added yet but I am hoping to be able to update the plane story in May when the pilot's son will be coming to stay.

The island is still suffering from the effects of the storms last October and the winter has been especially wet which has not helped. I have included a picture of the bridge between Agios Polycarpo and Raches. Spring is however in sight and the blossom trees are very flowering. .

I have been trying to research the origins of the Douris name in Great Britain and have come across some interesting information. I have put a number of documents on the information page.

Our family here on the site is still growing. Check out the trees as there are some additions.

I have also made available parts of the book written in 1677 about Ikaria as a transcript. You will find it on the Info page.

The procedure for viewing the Family Trees are the same - registration gives access to them

Family Tree page. Trees are on separate pages according to the main place of residence of the home person. I hope this way it will be easier for everyone to identify other members of their line. .

All areas of the Website except the Trees are fully available to everyone. .

Don't forget the message board. It can be used to leave and swap messages about family matters, post notices of events of interest or just for saying "Hello" and for what you think of the site.
I would still like photos from other Douris Families to include on the site, especially old ones.

Best wishes to you all.. Topsy

.

On the INFO Page there are 2 new interesting links available. Also a Transcript of the Chapter on Ikaria from the 1677 Book by Archbishop Georgirenes.

Also on this page is Information on the early Greek Church & Greek settlers in Great Britain.

On the Who's Who Page there is information on the background of Archbishop Georgirenes.

The story of the WWII plane that crashed on Ikaria has progressed and more is now known. It will be updated soon..

Coming soon for the info page the story of St. Theoktisti who's bones are here on Ikaria.

I am still hoping you will send in some of your old photos, stories, family tree information? You can use the contact form on this site to send me anything you wish to be included.

I am always open to any suggestions for our Douris Family website. It was never meant to be a site just about the Evdilos Douris's, please help me expand it with your photos, trees and stories.

Thank you ..Topsy
